i'm sure it is true of other students of color as well, but my experience as a black woman is pretty specific. And so i have been so used to everyone in the classroom turning round and looking at me that it has actually it hard to wonder what everyone else in the classroom is thinking. Most often i wonder, have i been the little black exception? Was i because i wasn't particularly loud, and because i really loved academics and was a good student? Have my teachers assu med that i was somehow different from all of my black peers, and that that made me sad? But, but, but moments like that often kicked off sort of this own dialogue happening in my head
