The Immanence of Death
Ryan holiday: Do you think people should live and deal with life knowing that both them and everybody else they care about is going to be gone? Holiday: For those of us who think it probably will happen, at least in our lifetime, i have found it to be tremendously sustaining to really immerse in the idea of impermanence. The tibetan monks used to turn their water glass over before they would go to sleep as a reminder to themselves that they might not wake up in the morning. And whenever i remember to do that in my life, i truly do find myself living differently.
