How to Provide Trauma-Informed Care
Patients should always be greeted or announce by their chosen name if it is listed in the electronic health care record. Staff should call patients by their last name and then use their date of birth for verification. A two-step approach is recommended when asking about patients gender identity first and then their sex assigned at birth second. Transgender and gender diverse people are more likely to have experienced trauma compared with the general population.
