What Is Root Shock?

i was studying the psychology of place and psychiatry is about disorder and illness so i was very interested in things that had made people ill. A set of stories that came up over and over again were stories of people who'd been displaced by urban renewal which was a program in the u.s. in the 50s and 60s. It seemed to me it was like pulling a plant out of the ground and gardeners have a term for what can happen to a plant if you just yank it from the ground because it tears the roots and it can go into shock they call that root shock.
