Pierpont Morgan's Journey to Understanding the Principle of Stability
Pierpont Morgan is an apprentice with a New York merchant bank called Duncan Sherman and Company. It's his job to keep abreast of local trends in America's most important southern port what's selling and what's not. In 1859 he spots a man in a suit hurrying down the gangplank of a newly arrived steamship followed by an angry-looking captain. He approaches the out of breath captain who tells him: "I'm gonna have to sell it off cheap" This is the first episode of our four-part series on JP Morgan a family affair.
