SEL is policing also looks like teaching a one-sized fits all approach in order to feel in control of the classroom at all times. Educators resort to testing young people in standardized ways without considering the multiple ways they express their intelligence. The narrative has long been that young people must change rather than the system. This leaves little to no room for creativity, for reflection and questioning of authority. Understanding authority means disrupting hegemonic systems.
