There's a weird imbalance between what we see ourselves and what we see of everyone else. I think we believe that we see the world in a sane way and everybody else is very, very odd. There's this thing called naive realism, which is just this idea that like, my eyes are little portholes out of which I see the world. And when you're closer to someone, you can give them more leeway.
