When i fire people, i will change the severance agreement language according to my view of what i think the reaction will be of the person fired. I did not think joe madden would do what he did this week end. Sometimes you want to be seen when you're making trades or signings, and you want there to be buzz around your team. But generally it's strategic. Then, of course, when you're out of baseball, you can start a podcast call, nothing personal, and boy, you can say the quiet part out loud.
