I think the institutions rest on certain stories, as you say, certain narratives that grant them legitimacy. And back in the twentieth century, when i was a young analyst at c i a, before all this craziness happened, nobody would have questioned the legitimacy of american institutions. The distance between the top and the bottom of the pyramid is too high, given that we all live on the internet, where it's flat.
