The Inaction of the Federal Government in Reducing Homelessness
I think that the real reason why is because of the inaction of the federal government. The fact that California taxpayer sent a large portion of our income to the federal government and HUD basically does nothing now in terms of reducing homelessness is incredible. So much, so much public housing could be built to get a lot of these shelters fixed tomorrow. This was like Teddy Roosevelt was around or something. They would have thrown up some public housing towers and the shelters would have been gone tomorrow. Now we've since Reagan, well, really public housing stopped getting built under Nixon, and then Reagan turned it into a voucher program. And ever since then, we have been like total inaction by the federal government as homelessness
