St. Huni Perot's Missions
St. Huni Perot was a Spanish missionary who worked in Baja and Alta, the two parts of California at the time. The missions were set up far away from military forts to prevent Russian expansion into what is now the US. He built churches where there was a fresh source of water; he wanted to teach Indians how to farm so that they would have food.
