Garmard: I left Pinterest before my stock vested, which is kind of an important point and how I actually begin the essay. It's really hard to build a business just off its own revenues. You know, at our peak, we're burning probably $350,000 a month. That was five years ago in the mission. And when you leave San Francisco, these numbers, they just blow people's brains. So that was one big lesson I learned was like money goes way farther.
