Why Do People Believe in Fake News?

Why do people believe in fake news? And why is it so pervasive? Well, it's not clear how deeply they believe it. Most people are very happy to endorse beliefs wher they don't care whether they're factually true. Or false, but they just feel that it's morally valuable,. It's lifting, it's empowering, it's inspiring to hold that belief. Whether it's true or false is you can't know, and who cares. That's what most religious faith consists of. A lot of conspiratorial beliefs in fake news are held because of their expressive uplift power rather than being factuallytrue.
