Fundamental constants: is the universe fine tuned for life to exist?
Great Mysteries of Physics
The Problem With Fine-Tuned Universes
There is currently no reliable evidence suggesting that the constant of nature do vary, but this may change over the coming decade. The espresso observatory at the very large telescope in Chile has been trying to measure whether the fine structure constant really does vary. In particle physics, both the Muhan-ji 2 experiment in the US and the Large Hadron Collider in CERN have found strange anomalies suggests there are particles out there we haven't yet discovered. And so given all these gaps in knowledge, perhaps we're just too eager to investigate whether the universe is fine-tuned. Is there any point in debating it at all? Fred thinks so. It may indeed be natural for our inquis
