The Unauthorized Biography
CM: My wife layered fictions within her life as a kind of performance or at times shield. That was the first reason X refused to authorize a biography. She lived in a play without intermission in which she'd cast herself in every role. At one point, X herself says that biography is an insult to the way I've chosen to live. And it strikes me that in the novel you're both assembling and disassembling biography.
