What if Interest Rates Were Ten %?

The banks would fail. The government would be insolvent. And of course, the stock market would crash by definition if interest rates went up that much. We had a very severe recession when rates went to 20 % in 19 80. But a rate of ten % would do far more damage now than 20 % did then because we had a much stronger economy and were still creditor nation.
