I used to have a 53-day first draft cycle, which meant that if I was writing 1500 words a day in 53 days, I'd have a first draft roughly of an 80,000-word book. And so I made a commercial decision that pulled my word count back from 80,000 to 65,000. That's the commercial decision and sell that comfortably and make 20% paperback royalty on Amazon.
