Some researchers it seeing this is part of a growing train of authoritarianism which is happening around the world. The dynamics of social media play very neatly into the hands of people who are intentionally spreading disinformation and trying to discredit science. They tend to boost items that are being engaged with heavily. And some people know how to really manipulate these ulgarithms to their own ends.
