Reinhard genzel and ecart were the first to use speckle photometry. This is where you do extremely high speed imaging, and then shift your images around on the bright spots in the image so that you can take out the effects of the atmosphere. Since 96 and 98, they've been both working in competing teams, with gensel taking leadership of his team. It's increasing our understanding of the supermass of black hole in the centre of our galaxy.
