The Giver in Middle School

It's not necessarily an evil empire, but basically it starts out in this society where the worst punishment you can have from the society is to be released. And as you read and it seems like a fairly normal culture, except for the fact that everybody's assigned their jobs when they turn 12. So I know that reading that book early on definitely is what made me desensitized to the idea of utopia in the appeal of it. No matter how you get there, something's going to be wrong with it.
