The Intersection of Madness and Religion
There's an intersectional issue there between madness and religion and religious experience. What I'm trying to do within my book really is to identify the difference or distinguish between the kind of traditional pathologized madness of psychiatry, which only mad people who come in front of psychiatrists generally are people who are in distress. So distress becomes a proxy for madness. You know, it's the idea of a vision of God. It's not a psychiatric illness. A vision of God is an empowerment ... These are acute religious experiences.
