Is There a Difference Between Yes and No?

In English we have two different words to answer it. You have yes, which is an affirmative answer and no, which means that is not true. There's a lot of complications in that, but yeah. In Japanese you are agreeing with the speaker rather than saying the truth as a statement. Although I think there is sort of a weird pattern in Chinese that can happen. It's hard to distinguish because of the tones.
