American people don't need to look at the road when they're driving. They can have a full detail conversation with another person in the passenger seat without looking at the road. It's possible to have a conversation while looking over your shoulder as well. You can do all kinds of things while driving and you don’t need to look where you're going. That's purely based on what I've seen in films and TV shows, particularly if you're Bruce Willis or watching too much Liam Neeson.
