Death in the Highlands and Islands
In the Highlands and Islands, people would tend to die at home. The body would be laid out for two nights and two days; a wake would happen. There were no professional undertakers in Barra until about the 1980s. In many ways it may seem very morbid to us, but I think it's quite healthy because it's accepting the reality of death into ordinary life.
