The Long-Term Debt Cycle

Eric Liu: The theory of the long-term debt cycle is that once debt levels are so high, there must be a deleveraging. He says inflation hasn't been able to solve a debt problem because major economies will provoke retaliation from trading partners. Most of the future debt burden in the U.S. is linked to inflation, he says. Liu: Net national savings increased during World War II but not as much as it did today.
