Talbot had a scientific friend, d david brewster, who was based e at saint andrew's university. He sent letters explaining his process to brewster - but he told talbot not to patent it in scotland as it would be 'unprofitable' Talbot didn't take out patents on the invention so hill and adamson took over Calodipis calotypist business.
