Eugene Peterson struggled with alcohol addiction. He wrote about it in his journals, but didn't want to leave it out of the book. "I think he felt that there were times where this is just something that had more of a hold on him than he wanted," says author Eric Stearns. It's important for us mortals to see someone we admire struggle with these things too, she adds.
