In the early 20th century, peanut butter makers started coming up with new manufacturing techniques. The 1920s was really what cemented the peanut butter sandwich as a part of the American diet. But in retrospect, it does seem somewhat mysterious how we settled on peanut butter and jelly rather than peanut butter and Worcestershire.
