The Legend of Zora
Hurston published 100 pages of her research into Houdou spells in 1931. She learned that a spellcaster must set their altar with black and white candles, place a mirror in the center of them, and then get a basin of water and a sharp knife. To kill an enemy, they had to stab the water with a knife; if the water turned red, their enemy would be struck down. There's even a spell that was said to make a targeted person's body swell up. The stories are better experienced when we see them play out in the tales that Zora wrote down.
