I Was Born in Mississippi
In the early 19 sixties, white mississippi held most of its black residence in a kind of serftom. Many worked on cotton farms like their enslaved ancestors but with no real options for making a living. Public education was separate and deeply unequal. The 64 summer project was the most creative, concentrated, multil attack on oppression in this country.
