The Lamas of the Andes
One of the first great cities of this region was called tiwanaku, and it grew up in what is now western bolivia. These early valley settlements were joined by a precarious strand of pathways and roads that traced narrow lines through the mount sthe steep narrow river gorges could only be crossed at certain points where it was possible to build a bridge. This system saw sea shells decorating the clothes of people who lived a thousand miles from the sea and bright tropical feathers decorating the hair of people who had never aid eyes on the jungle.
