The Plastic Show in Dundee

Plastic has some pretty dark connections with Imperial too, doesn't it? Yeah, absolutely. One of the really fascinating aspects of the plastic show in Dundee is that it really draws out plastic as a material that highlights asymmetries of power. So we could also think about celluloid, for example, my students are often surprised to learn that one of the raw ingredients that goes into making films cotton comes from cotton. It is a material that embodies that kind of dark, imperial legacy that's also linked with and prices of enslavement as well.
