The Adventures of Park on the Gambia River
On April 27th, 1805, Park and his 40 or so men set out from Kay on the Gambia River. There were 42 donkeys to carry the many supplies. They carried amber and beads and silk gifts for the local kings and chieftains. And there were supplies for the troops, including food and muskets and gunpowder. On May 15th, John Walters would suffer its first fatality when a soldier had an epileptic attack.
