Trying to get people to acknowledge that fossil fuels are a problem is really tricky. A lot of activists were very disappointed that there wasn't stronger language to say we need to end the use of fossil fuels over time. The fossil fuel producing countries want some wiggle room to have technologies like carbon capture or to come up with some technology in the future to remove CO2 from the air, she says.
In a UN-brokered agreement, more than 190 countries agreed to pay for “loss and damage” caused by climate change. But determining who owes what — and for what and to whom — will be a real challenge.
