Everything that goes in your mouth affects your gene expression and food has a massive impact on your brain, both directly and indirectly through the gut microbiome. When you consume a diet high in ultra-processed foods, you significantly increase your risk of mental illness. Having a diet with good diversity, with lots of good nutrients in it, actually supports really good mental health.
