Gothic king Radagasis divided his followers into three groups and set them to plundering. When Stilico was reinforced, having the Gothic forces divided turned out to be the biggest liability of all. About 12,000 of the best Gothic fighters were promptly enrolled into the Roman army while the rest were sold into slavery. Anyone left over headed back from whence they had come, most likely dreading the reception olden had planned for them.
