Is the Ratio of Living a Good Idea?

The rate of living theory is based on the idea that animals only have a certain number of heart beats, and once you've expended those allotted heart beats, you're going to die. A humming bird undergoes three or four or five times as many heart beats in a lifetime as we do. This is one of the reasons that i think one of the interesting groups of animals that we could study to learn something about how we could age more successfully as birds. That gets us into a lot of interesting territory. You know, my understanding, as one of your great discoveries, was this difference in longevity of possums that lived in the mainland of georgia as opposed to an island off coast
