This book leaves a lot to be desired. It ends before mody gets enough national power to really start threatening democratic institutions. I wouldn't trust andy merino to tell me about it. In the meantime, what can we conclude? Modies rise eerily parallels edons. Both grew up in poor families and got involved early in religious slash political organizations. Both used their religious connections to semi accurately present themselves as beacons of piety and virtue amid a corrupt establishment. Both tried to shed their party's fir right image in favour of being sent to write free market capitalists. And both implemented free market reforms that helped them get the credit for a good economy.
