Nietzsche's Criticism of Epicureanism
In the gay science section 17 he doesn't mention Epicurus by name but he does discuss the practice of reinterpreting one's circumstances in order to find happiness in them. So this is more of a critique of Epicurus I think even though he's not mentioned by name than the previous passage was. Nietzsche would consider Epicurus to be a far more honest philosopher than Plato. He calls Plato boring, he says that Plato was a frustrated utopian who couldn't realize his political ideology and reality whereas Epicurus has the advantage of having sort of christened the life that he actually led as being a blessed life, as being the good life right?
