The Battle of Arnhem
Four British prisoners of war make a break for freedom in the pitch black. They have been equipped with one of Charles Fraser Smith's most famous devices. A miniature compass, complete with a phosphorescent luminous dot to aid navigation in the dark. We put them in buttons, cap badges, the linings of jackets and even dentist fillings. The escape kits evolved during the war considerably - but I'm proud of what I did contribute.
