Each server lists something that helps you figure out what its values and policies are like if you go to the server. You will often, you will often have to agree to a code of conduct. There are some servers where you basically need to fill out a form before they even let you on. The more people sign up as people get interested in Mastodon, the more likely it is you might just run out of RAM or disk space.
