The Importance of Structural Understanding

An autonomous car doesn't have to know how an internal combustion engine works. It just has to know that the road has this friction and this is when you should start breaking. And there's not a sense that it has any structural understanding that it has four wheels, for example. The point is, it's making something that looks like, but it doesn't know what it is.
