What's the Difference Between High Definition and High Participation?
There's a distinction that Marshall McClurin made in the 50s or 60s between hot media and cool media. What we have now is high definition, high participation and ubiquitous. And I think that one of the things you see with universities today is there are all these sort of techniques and technologies aimed at student engagement. But I wonder if in some ways by promising students a level of interactivity and a level of instantaneous kind of feedback they're very rarely able to provide.
