The Advantages of Carbohydrates in Sprinting

The fat oxidation is sort of chugging along, and then if the carbohydrate comes along, it's going to out-compete it. The competition will always be won by carbohydrate, because they can break things down faster,. As you're breaking down carbohydrates, to get to a substrate that goes into the mitochondria, you make ATP. It becomes much more energetically efficient when you're trying to sprint.
