Marquis Del Toro - The First Test of Resolve

On july nineteenth, an armed insurrection broke out in the town of valencia. The mostly mixed race population swore allegiance to king ferdinand and rejected the author of the caracas congress. This now being a major test of resolve, the marquis del toro organized the armed forces at the republic's disposal. But the old marquis wasn't really a military commander, nor his men really soldiers. At the first sign of real resistance in valencia, they retreated without putting up much of a fight at all. On august thirteenth, valencia did finally capitulate, butthe combined dead and wounded on the patriot side numbered as much as 50 % of the army.
