The Theory of Justice - Is There Just One Perfect Society?
It seems like the rules you're going to choose for your society depend upon external constraints. Rawls is writing for societies under conditions of what he calls moderate scarcity. He isn't developing an account of justice for a society of limitless plenty, if such a society would indeed need an account of Justice. So the circumstances of the society that he is addressing are really important and you've put your finger on one.
