People who hate democracy in the middle east tend to be well educated alites. This is one of the reasons i'm sceptical of education as a means to progress. The educated are sometimes the worst people when it comes to basic morality. I think that individuals are products of their environment. And they don't, in some sense, if you've lived under authoritarianism your whole life and dictatorship is all you know. That's why i generally reserve the category of evil for regimes and not for the people who live under them. There's no way to completely eradicate the authorit and temptation.
