Clint had used the same toolkit while volunteering in a washington d c. Jail. One of his students there had read the book the color of the law. The book transformed away the young man understood his community and why someone like him had ended up in jail. It's not to absolve him of what hed is not to say that he doesn't have free will or agency over the sorts of decisions that he makes.
