In the final scene, just as we're wrapping up today, the daughter is standing at the threshold. She's enraged. She also has been telling Charlie that he's disgusting because he abandoned them. And one of the things that she's demanded of him is to stand up and give her some evidence that he still has agency. He rises off of the couch with enormous effort, which is meant to evoke the feeling of an enormous sperm well or Moby Dick rising from the depths. Each step is enormously difficult for him. His heart is in distress. The daughter in a kind of fierce intensity is staring at him. There's this spasm of pain and an image of him lifting lightly off
