Is Consciousness Science Red?
We often set a higher bar for consciousness than we do for other things, partly because we are conscious. There's absolutely no reason why a scientific account of consciousness should be intuitively satisfying. And even if we don't completely solve the hard problem, maybe our explanations will bottom out somewhere. We'll get a lot further than trying to address the hard problem ahead on and ignoring all the rich possible space of explanations that we can empirically get at.
